Agile ALM- Leveraging application development

in Management

The business world today has a very technologically well informed customers and clients and whose demands change with every technological innovation, making priorities, requirements and resources of the organizations very dynamic. The challenge then lies in achievingscheduled delivery, customer satisfaction and retention, quality standards while keeping in tune with the organization’s goals and objectives. Software application management like ALM have been developed which can be used during the developmental lifecycle of a project to control these vital factors.

Application lifecycle management or ALM includes the practices, processes and tools to facilitate management of an application's lifecycle from its initial development phase to final release, as required from a business and development perspective. This can also be controlled and improved with successive iteration of the project’s life cycle. The process of ALM includes a number of phases such as requirement management, application architecture and design specifications, core application development, project management, and database management. This also includes issue tracking and reporting, which helps to resolve issues manage risks. Further, Analysis of the project helps to control quality issues, scalability problems, version control and approval and implementation of the project.

Consolidations of Agile and ALM, the two distinct market segments, have resulted in  Agile ALM platforms. ALM and Agile communities both focus on enhancing the software development process. While ALM looks at it from the technological perspective, Agile takes on the challenge of improving the process itself. The mutual goals of these two segments have resulted in a number of players in the market. Being a cross-platform web-based solution, it combines continuous integration and life cycle management and caters for the complexity of service-oriented highly distributed systems.

Agile Application lifecycle management refers to the software development methodologies based on iterative and incremental development. By collaborating between cross-functional self-organizing teams, it supports each stage of the development process and facilitates change. The agile developments methods promote teamwork, collaboration and adaptability throughout the project's life cycle and paves way for an organization to adopt beneficial practices within the organizational goals and constraints. Agile ALM thus supports management practices and engineering practices in the product lifecycle management solutions irrespective of the industry and reduces the possibilities of failure of any project.
